San Francisco’s 5 Essential Coffee Spots

Let’s face it—coffee is an essential part of the day for so many people who live in San Francisco, and luckily for those of us who can’t start the day without a good cup of Joe, there are more than a few great local coffee houses around town that help jump start our mornings and get the work day started off on the right foot.

In recent years, it seems like a wave of new coffee joints have sprouted up all over the city, especially in neighborhoods like the Financial District and South of Market. Other more established coffee shops in San Francisco that have been around for decades also help fill out various neighborhood landscapes and are always worth supporting whenever possible. But depending on where you live or work, sometimes grabbing a quick cup of coffee on-the-go is more about convenience than anything else, which is certainly understandable as well. But if you’re like us and love checking out new restaurants, bars, cafes, and coffee shops every now and again, here’s a short look at some of the many local spots that have quickly become several of our favorites.

Snowbird Coffee

1352A 9th Ave, San Francisco, CA 94122

If you’re a coffee snob (like us), you’ll love the offerings at Snowbird Coffee. The espresso drinks are top-notch and they even use house-roasted beans in addition to some obscure national brands as well.

Ritual Roasters Coffee

1300 Haight St, San Francisco, CA 94117

Ritual now has six locations in the Bay Area so it hardly needs an introduction. But our favorite location is at 1300 Haight Street, which overlooks beautiful Buena Vista Park. The space is small but it’s also super bright and a great place to relax and enjoy great coffee.

Saint Frank

2340 Polk St, San Francisco, CA 94109

We like Saint Frank because of its minimalist decor and because the coffee beans are sourced from independent producers. On a busy day it’s hard to find a seat here but the coffee and good service definitely make it worth the visit.

Linea Caffe

3417 18th St, San Francisco, CA 94110

Cute and unassuming, Linea Caffe continues to be a go-to spot for us in San Francisco’s bustling Mission District. It’s perfect for a coffee or latte on the go and their proprietary roast is widely regarded as one of the best cups of coffee in the city.

Sightglass Coffee

270 7th St, San Francisco, CA 94103

Sightglass Coffee makes the cut because its bright, open, and ultra-spacious, which can be ideal for freelancers or anyone looking for a place to get some work done away from the office. It’s also noted for its cold brews, making it a great spot to hit up during a hot summer day.

Farley’s

1315 18th St, San Francisco, CA 94107

With so many coffee shops coming and going these days, Farley’s feels like a bit of a throwback. Inside you’ll find a decent amount of seating, board games, a solid selection of typical coffee shop drinks and snacks, and even a small magazine rack that looks like something out of an old newsstand (which we absolutely love).
